SUGS Gimnazija Orce Nikolov (NORTH MACEDONIA)
Secondary school of the City of Skopje Gymnasium "Orce Nikolov"
The school's facility consists of: 30 classrooms (5 of which are equipped with LCD projectors, 12 cabinets with SMART boards, 13 with SMART TVs), library with multimedia reading room, career center, fiscultural hall and gym, properly decorated sports grounds, green yard area, office space, hallways, sanitary nodes and other auxiliary spaces.
The secondary school of the City of Skopje "Orce Nikolov" educates students in four years of general high school.
Compulsory subjects are the program core of high school education and apply to all students. They provide a general standard of knowledge that will allow students to be educated in all areas of the high school education system. Electoral subjects are grouped into three electoral areas: - social – humanistic A and B -mathematical A and B - linguistic-artistic A and B
Bilingual French classes
In classes I – 9, II – 9, III – 9 and IV – 9 the subjects mathematics, chemistry, geography and history are performed in Macedonian and French. In bilingual French classes, teaching is done by teachers that have a great knowledge of French, certificates B-1, B-2, A-2.
Bilingual English classes
In classes I - 6, 7, 8; II-6, 7, 8 the subjects are partly performed in English, and in classes III- 6, 7, 8 and IV–6,7,8, teaching in the subjects mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, philosophy, logic and business and entrepreneurship is in Macedonian and English. In bilingual English classes, the teaching is performed by teachers with a solid knowledge of English, and constant training is underway to improve.
Eco-activities
Every school year the school continues to actively participate in the Eco School programme, which provides for several activities. The procedures to implement the activities imply the inclusion of all available resources of the School (students, teachers, parents, pedagogical-psychological staff, technical staff), as well as co-operation with the local government and the business community.
In 2009 we started eco-activities in the school and schoolyard with the sole purpose of cleaning up the environment to raise awareness of students, teachers, technical staff and parents for environmental protection. We have active co-operation with the NGO Go Green, which has set up a bicycle parking lot in the schoolyard as part of the Youth on A Bicycle project supported by the City of Skopje.
Drama section
Project activity DRAMA AND DRAMA SECTION has been active since the moment the school was founded. The purpose of this project activity is to show students their acting, directorial and stage skills and to bring a newly directed existing play or a brand new play to the stage.
Every year, students' interest in this project activity is increasing and about a hundred students are members annually. Students who participate in this project activity also participate in manifestations of competitive and revival character, such as "School Gymnasium", "We are the best" etc., and also visit the theatre in Belgrade.
Sports activities
The real motto of sports activities in the school is "Sport and the Young". For more than sixty years, Orce Nikolov Gymnasium has been recognizable for its accolades and awards, which led to him receiving the аward for most successful school sports club in 2010. Years ago, school representations in basketball, volleyball, handball and footsal (in men's and women's competitions) won the first places in municipal, city and state competitions.
The Career Centre
The Career Centre at SUGS Gymnasium "Orce Nikolov" organized the "Open School Day" event for ten years in a row. On that day, volunteer students and the school's teaching staff inform the interested students about the school's work, as well as the programming purposes of education in bilingual classes. The open day is an opportunity for future students to communicate directly with the teaching staff and psychological staff at the school and to directly familiarize themselves with the different activities, projects and conditions of work in the school.
Choir
The long and successful tradition of choral music at SUGS Gymnasium "Orce Nikolov" starts with the beginnings of the school's educational activities.
Many music educators, with their work and dedication in the past decades, have contributed to developing love among young people about choral art. As a result of these activities, the gymnasium has won numerous awards.
Every year, with the departure of graduate members, new members take part in the choir.
The enthusiasm and love of young people for this type of music confirm that choral activity will continue to be nurtured in the years to come.
